La Petita Mort (Welcome and instructions)
Between 10% and 20% of people who have undergone clinical death report a near-death experience (NDE), with phenomena such as leaving the body, passing through a tunnel, or perceiving an intense light. Many describe a profound sense of peace and remarkably similar patterns across cultures, which fuels the debate between neurobiological explanations and the possible continuity of consciousness.
— What happens to consciousness when the brain stops functioning?
— Are these experiences constructed by the brain, or do they point to something beyond?
— Why do people from very different cultures describe such similar patterns?
— What impact do these experiences have on how we understand life and death?
The installation in front of you is La Petita Mort, a proposal that approaches this phenomenon from both an artistic and academic perspective, combining research and stage creation. We offer a brief yet intense immersive experience that allows participants to symbolically inhabit this threshold through virtual reality, sound, vibration, and space. It is not about representing death, but about creating a direct, embodied experience based on the accounts of hundreds of people who have lived through these experiences.
